In the center is spherical smokeless powder; this powder is usually cheaper because it is faster to manufacture and is also easier to meter compared with other forms. On the left is smokeless powder of a somewhat flattened form; it has the same characteristics as the spherical form and is its flattened version, generally being preferable in shotgun shells. On the right is smokeless powder in the form of discs, usually used in pistol cartridges and shotgun shells.
