RDG-2Ch grenades are ignited by an integral match igniter. To employ the grenade, remove the side caps using the tapes and strike the striker against the igniter head so that it ignites. The igniter may also be lit with ordinary matches or a lighter. After this, the grenade may be thrown. It is strictly not recommended to hold the grenade in the hand or approach closer than 0.5 m while it is burning, as this may result in burns.

Under average meteorological conditions, one RDG-2Ch grenade produces an opaque cloud of white smoke 10-15 meters long.
Chemical mixture composition:
- potassium chloride (50%)
- anthracene (50%)

RDG-2Ch grenades are stored in crates of 60 units. The crate weight is 34 kg.

The grenade is produced in four variants — RDG-2B, RDG-2Ch and RDG-2Kh.
