Detonator Cap No. 8-A

Detonator Cap No. 8-A is a Soviet flash-type detonator cap, consisting of a cylindrical casing open at one end, with a high explosive charge (tetryl, PETN, or RDX) pressed into the lower part, and a primary explosive (lead azide and TNRS) above it. The detonator cap charge is covered on top by a cup with a hole in the center. The hole in the cup is covered with a silk mesh.

It is used for manufacturing firing tubes when conducting blasting operations by the flame method, as well as in the designs of certain engineer munitions.

Detonator Cap No. 8-A must be handled with extreme care; it is sensitive to impact, compression, and heating. It must be transported only in a protective tube or case. If it detonates in the hands, it can tear off several fingers.

Training Detonator Caps No. 8-A are used for troop training. They have the same dimensions as live ones, but are filled with an inert substance. There is a white stripe (band) 3–5 mm wide on the casing, and a hole in the base of the casing, closed with a cardboard disk.
