The mine is supplied in a KPDM-4 cassette together with a combat float and an anchor; one cassette contains one mine. Cassettes with mines are emplaced remotely using the PKM portable minelaying kit, the UMZ universal mine-laying system, the VSM-1 helicopter minelaying system, or manually.

During emplacement, the cassette sinks to the bottom; after 9 minutes the mine is released from the cassette, the anchor remains on the bottom, and the mine rises to the length of the cable connecting the mine to the anchor.

The fuze is non-contact (induction); it responds to the magnetic field of a floating craft or armored vehicle and detonates.

Silver, unpainted.
