TM-62T Anti-Tank Mine

The TM-62T mine is an anti-tank anti-track mine. It is designed to disable enemy tracked and wheeled vehicles. Enemy vehicles are defeated by damaging their running gear when the mine charge detonates at the moment a wheel (road wheel) runs over the mine fuze. The body of the TM-62T mine is made of dark-green nylon fabric impregnated with an epoxy compound.

Externally, it differs from the TM-62P3 only in the texture of the body surface.

The use of fuzes with metal bodies (MVZ-62, MVCh-62, MVSh-62, MVD-62, VT-17) for this mine is a forced measure, because when they are used, their main advantage is lost—the inability to be detected by metal detectors.

A mine fitted with MV-62, MVP-62, MVP-62M, or MVK-62 fuzes is not detected by metal detectors (mine detectors) due to the virtually complete absence of metal components in them. These fuzes are recommended for the TM-62T mine, although the mine can be used with all fuzes of the MV-62 family.

In addition, the mine can be used with fuzes included in controlled minefield sets UMP, UMVP-2, UMPN-68, as well as as an explosive charge with the DU-62 firing device.

The mine itself does not have a target sensor in the form of a pressure cover. The target sensor is only the area of the fuze. When the track of a tank (or the wheel of a vehicle) runs over the fuze cover, it fractures along the weakened section and the cover presses on the intermediate detonator, causing the mine to function.

The TM-62T mine was intended for wartime production as an alternative in the event of a shortage of metal or plastic for the body and insufficient industrial capacity. Its peacetime production and stockpiling were not planned.

Booby traps may be used as anti-lift elements.

Coloring

Dark green or olive green. Other color variants are possible (for mines manufactured for export).

Marking

Standard, in black letters on the side or upper surface of the body, and includes:

TM-62T - mine code.

66-7-79 - manufacturer plant code - batch number - year of manufacture.

T - filling code.

Destructive capabilities

The detonation of a TM-62T destroys 3-5 track links, 1-2 road wheels, and 1-2 balance arms.
