When used as an anti-handling device, the ML-8 mine is installed underneath pressure-operated antipersonnel mines (as with the ML-7) of the PMN, PMN-2, PMN-4, PMD-6M types, OZM-72 fragmentation mines, TM-62 series antitank mines or similar mines, and when an attempt is made to remove the antipersonnel or antitank mine from its emplacement site, the ML-8 mine detonates, striking enemy soldiers. This also results in detonation or destruction of the mine under which the booby trap mine has been installed. When used as a booby trap mine, the ML-8 is emplaced on the ground so that it is not visible (for example, in a dug recess), and an item that will necessarily attract the enemy's interest (as with the ML-7) and induce him to pick it up or use it (weapons, everyday items, etc.) is placed on top of it. In this case, casualties among personnel are caused by the blast effect of the ML-8 mine itself. A sufficiently large explosive charge (80 grams of plastic explosive) is guaranteed to kill or maim a person. Render-safe operations are prohibited.

Green, protective.
Marking
Embossed on the mine cover and standard (mine code, manufacturer code, lot number and year of manufacture. Some batches of mines have no marking.
