The mine is primarily used against unarmored or lightly armored targets. Above all, it is used to damage combat and industrial equipment, combat and transport vehicles, railway rolling stock, fuel containers (tanks), and other targets. It may also be used against small-displacement vessels and underwater targets.
The mine penetrates steel walls up to 45 mm thick, forming a hole up to 450 mm in diameter.
The mine is secured to the target to be demolished by magnets. The mine detonates after expiration of the preset delay period of a VZD-1M time-delay detonator. To increase reliability of functioning, two detonators are inserted simultaneously into special sockets located in the boss of the dome-shaped body. The delay time is determined by the type of metal element installed in the detonator in advance.
It has no target sensors. It has no anti-removal or self-destruction elements. The mine has an EN anti-removal detonator, which detonates the mine if an attempt is made to remove it from the demolition target.
