Anti-Personnel Mine MIB “Vkladysh”

The MIB “Vkladysh” mine-grenade is a modern Russian anti-personnel fragmentation mine-grenade with omnidirectional effect and tripwire actuation, adopted into service by the Russian Federation in 2007. It is also used as a hand grenade.

The mine body contains annular plates of identical inner diameter and different outer diameters, from which lethal fragments are formed during the mine explosion. Injury to one or several persons is inflicted by fragments of the annular plates upon detonation of the mine charge after activation of one of the four target sensors (thin nylon threads 10 meters long).

The mine can be emplaced only on the ground and only manually. The possibility of mine emplacement by mechanized means is not provided.

The mine has a self-destruction device that ensures self-destruction of the mine by detonation after 3-100 hours and self-neutralization within up to 120 days from the time of emplacement (the self-destruction time depends on the ambient temperature). The mine is not subject to mine clearance.

The mine is placed on spring-loaded legs in a near-vertical position on the terrain; the anchors of the target sensors are scattered to the sides at a distance of up to 10 meters, unwinding the target sensor threads. When a force of more than 0.3 kgf is applied to the thread, the safety-and-firing mechanism is actuated, ensuring detonation of the mine.

If the mine has not assumed the correct position, for example due to landing in deep snow or a swamp, or the target sensors were unable to assume the correct position (they did not fully deploy, or not all deployed, or not to the full distance), the mine nevertheless operates in its standard mode.
