Anti-Transport Mine MZU and MZU-S

The MZU and MZU-S mines are designed for mining roads and railways. The mines may also be employed as delayed-action demolition charges for the destruction of military and industrial structures. The MZU-S differs from the MZU only by the presence of a self-destruct mechanism.

The mine is emplaced under a road or beneath a railway track bed.

The mine incorporates an ENI anti-withdrawal element of the tilt type, which detonates the mine when it is tilted by 18°-30°, and an ENO anti-neutralization element, which detonates the mine if an attempt is made to remove the upper case.

The mine has three operating modes marked on it: ОБЬЕКТ, АВТО, ПОЕЗД.

In АВТО mode, the magnetic sensor operates, initiating detonation under a vehicle passing over the mine.

In ПОЕЗД mode, the vibration sensor operates, initiating detonation of the mine from the vibration of a train passing over it.

In ОБЬЕКТ mode, a delay mechanism operates, preset for detonation within a period of 1 to 60 days.

The mine is connected to the control panel by a 10-meter cable. The panel is intended only for setting the mine for detonation, after which the mine operates autonomously. If the cable is cut, it is impossible to clear the mine.

When mining railways, as a rule the MZU mine is emplaced on high embankments or in cuttings and on curved sections of track, under the outer rail. The mine may also be emplaced under the rail, between the rails, under a sleeper, between sleepers, beside the track (up to 1.5 meters from the nearest rail), at a depth of 0.5-1.5 meters. The mine explosion forms a crater 3.5-5.5 meters in diameter, but additional explosive charges are placed in the shaft where the mine is emplaced to ensure reliable destruction of railway rolling stock.

When mining roads, the mine is emplaced beneath the road at a depth of 0.2-1 meter. The mine explosion forms a crater 3.5-5.5 meters in diameter, but additional explosive charges are placed in the shaft where the mine is emplaced to ensure reliable destruction of railway rolling stock.

When mining road and industrial structures, the mine operates in the ОБЬЕКТ position. It is emplaced in a pre-prepared chamber, niche, or well, generally with an additional explosive charge.
